Laura Wasser, the queen of celebrity divorces, launches a breakup-themed clothing line

The family‑law attorney will donate the proceeds from a sweatshirt reading ‘dump him’ to a legal aid center that helps people navigate divorce safely, responsibly, and at no cost

Laura Wasser, 57, has built an empire thanks to the divorces of some of Hollywood’s most iconic celebrity couples. The family law expert represented Angelina Jolie in her divorce from Billy Bob Thornton and later from Brad Pitt — though Jolie ultimately dismissed her and hired a new firm to bring an end to a battle that dragged on for eight years. Kim Kardashian also turned to her twice: first for her divorce from Kris Humphries and later from Kanye West.

In addition to her extensive and exclusive roster of famous clients — who pay her $1,200 an hour — Wasser is the author of It Doesn’t Have to Be That Way: How to Divorce Without Destroying Your Family or Bankrupting Yourself. And now she is expanding her business ventures with a women’s clothing line called, fittingly, The Divorce Collection, created in collaboration with Reformation, a U.S. Sustainable‑fashion brand.

The collection’s slogan reads: “We called our lawyer. And she doesn’t want you to settle.” The new line includes dresses, trench coats, silk tops, jewelry, and handbags. Wasser herself has modeled the pieces and shared images on her Instagram profile, where she has 38.7 million followers. “For women who don’t need to settle,” reads the post, which has already drawn comments from celebrities such as Kris Jenner and Khloé Kardashian.

“Dump him” reads one of the sweatshirts in the collection the attorney has launched during the month of Valentine’s Day. It comes in six colors and sells for $128. According to Reformation’s website, “One hundred percent of the net proceeds of the sweatshirt will go to the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law, to support their work in helping people dump him safely, responsibly, and at no cost.”

“Because she’s really good at helping women feel sexy and empowered. And, coincidentally, so are we. In our new campaign with the acclaimed divorce lawyer, we’re doing that together,” the brand says of this unusual collaboration. “With a collection made for women who don’t settle, in court or when it comes to clothes. Featuring sexy, empowering things, and a limited-edition Dump Him Sweatshirt, in case your friends keep asking you for relationship advice.” Prices range from a $98-ring to a $548-tote bag.

The successful lawyer has a reputation for being tough, so much so that Kim Kardashian even claimed she was inspired by Wasser for her role as a lawyer in the series All’s Fair. Her path was set early on: her parents named her Laura Allison Wasser so that her initials would spell LAW. She was destined for the profession. Her father is an attorney, and he began building the family’s empire through celebrity divorces, including those of Clint Eastwood and Jennifer Lopez. Wasser’s first high‑profile case, interestingly, wasn’t a breakup at all: in 2001 she defended Stevie Wonder against his ex‑girlfriend, who sued him for allegedly giving her herpes.

The list of famous clients Wasser has represented over more than 20 years is long. She handled Ashton Kutcher’s split from Demi Moore; Ryan Reynolds’s from Scarlett Johansson; Christina Aguilera’s from Jordan Bratman; Nicole Kidman’s from Tom Cruise; Jennifer Garner’s from Ben Affleck; and Miley Cyrus’s from Liam Hemsworth. She also represented Melanie Griffith in her divorce from Antonio Banderas, and has provided counsel to Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Johnny Depp, and Ariana Grande.
